Will it fit my bike?
There are 2 types of Swytch Kits: Universal and for Bromptons. 95% of all bikes on the market can be fitted with at least one of these kits. If you’d like to find out which kit will fit your bike, don’t hesitate to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let us know your bike model, send us a couple of pictures, and our support team will guide you through picking the perfect Swytch Kit for your bike.
It doesn’t matter how peculiar your bike is – the Swytch Kit even works on a Penny Farthing!
As long as your bike has 9.5 cm of space at the centre of your handlebars, you will have no trouble Making The Swytch.
Nevertheless, there are 2 key features that are unfortunately not compatible with the Swytch Kit: Hub brakes, and thru-axles. Other than that, our conversion kit is incredibly versatile.
What’s the hub-only option?
With the hub-only kit, you will receive the hub with no rim. This is a great option if you have a particularly bespoke wheel that you would like to keep.
Once you receive your Swytch kit, your local bike mechanic would be able to fit it to your wheel for a small cost (£25-35).
Do you sell my wheel size?
We have a selection of 28″, 26″, and 16″ wheels available at RRP, as these are the most common wheel sizes. For other sizes between 16″ and 29″, we’ll build you a bespoke wheel fitted with our hub motor. You can also upgrade your wheel to matte-black to blend in with your bike!
Check out our “What is my wheel size?” post for assistance in deducing your bike’s wheel size.
Wich brakes does it work with?
The Universal Swytch Kit is fully compatible with cable, hydraulic, and disc brakes.
Both kits are not compatible with hub brakes, as this space is taken up by our hub motor. Also, the Swytch kit for Bromptons is not compatible with disc brakes.
Hub dynamos are not compatible with the Swytch Kit as the hub motor will take up space usually occupied by a dynamo. As long as you are willing to lose the dynamo, the Swytch Kit will still work with your bike as normal.
Using a Dynamo to power your lights? No problem! Our PRO Power Pack comes with a 200 lumen light, and all packs come with clips to attach lights to.
The most common questions regarding the Swytch Kit and folding bikes are:
Will my bike still fold with the Swytch Kit?
Yes! If you’re mounting the Power Pack on your handlebars, you will need to detach it, but as long as you secure the wires, your bike will fold with ease! If you need help, you can book a video support call with us.
If you have a Brompton bike, you can now attach your handlebar bracket in the Brompton Bag position with the Swytch block adaptor which means the Power Pack can remain attached when folding!
Will it fit on my Brompton Handlebars?
Yes! S, M, P, H, T-bar, you name it. All Brompton handlebars have got the necessary space in the centre for the Swytch handlebar bracket to fit nicely. 1000s of Brompton customers have already Made The Swytch, so we know what we’re talking about!
Will it fit on my Dahon or Tern?
You will need to measure the fork width to determine which kit you will need. Dahons and Terns either have 74mm dropout widths (same as Brompton), or 100mm (same as the Universal kit) and 20″ wheels.
Order our Swytch Kit with the “custom wheel build option”, and we’ll be able to supply you with a bespoke 20″ motor wheel to go on your bike.
For old bikes (30+ years), or bikes with aluminium or carbon forks, we recommend that customers install a torque arm to provide additional strength to the forks. You can add a torque arm to your order in the Order Portal, which you will be invited to via email a few days after you place your pre-order.
Got a recumbent bike? A tandem? Something weirder? We’ll have a section on this soon, but for now get in touch with us at email@example.com and we’ll show you how you can Make The Swytch.
