How to Make Your Folding Bicycle Electric

Before we get into the specifics, it’s important to note that Swytch Kits are only compatible with cable brakes, hydraulic brakes, and disc brakes. If your folding bike uses any other kind of brake (e.g. hub, roller or coaster brakes), you’ll need to swap them out for disc or rim brakes. If you’ve got a Brompton bike, we’ve got you covered - Swytch sells dedicated Brompton conversion kits that are compatible with all available models.

So, how does it all work? Swytch Kits feature a 250w high torque motor connected to a pedal sensor, linked to a Power Pack mounted on your handlebars which contains a lithium-ion 250Wh battery, and a controller. This might sound complex to anyone who hasn’t used an eBike before, but the entire installation process takes around 30 minutes. We've also specifically designed for cyclists with no prior knowledge of eBike maintenance.

Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Replace your front wheel with the Swytch motor wheel
  2. Fit the pedal sensor around your pedals
  3. Fix the handlebar mount that holds the Power Pack
  4. Connect all the wires, and you’re good to go!

We can accommodate a broad range of wheel and frame setups. If you have any questions about your making the Swytch with your folding bike, get in touch.
